What types of luxury motor yachts can I charter in Spain?

There is a superb selection of luxury yachts for charter in Spain. Some of these include:

Displacement yachts for charter

Known for their stability and lower centre of gravity, a displacement yacht is the perfect vessel for long-distance cruising in various sea conditions on the Mediterranean Sea and causal cruising along the Spanish coast.

Planing yachts for charter

These yachts are designed for performance, agility, and responsiveness. They handle well at high speeds, offering a thrilling and dynamic experience for those on board a yacht charter in Spanish waters.

Semi-displacement yachts for charter

Semi-displacement yachts can operate efficiently at a range of speeds. At lower speeds, they behave similarly to displacement hulls, cutting through the water with less resistance, resulting in better fuel efficiency. As the speed increases, they transition to a partially planing mode, riding on the water surface rather than ploughing through it, allowing for increased speed without excessive power.

Trideck yachts for charter

Trideck yachts are known for their spaciousness, luxurious amenities, and the ability to provide various entertainment and relaxation options across multiple levels. These vessels cater to discerning clients seeking an elevated yachting experience in the Mediterranean.

Flybridge yachts for charter

The defining feature of a flybridge yacht is the raised deck above the main deck, often accessible via stairs or a ladder. This elevated space provides panoramic views of the surroundings, making it a popular area for socialising, dining, and enjoying the scenery.

Explorer yachts for charter

Explorer yachts have sturdy hulls and reinforced structures to withstand rough seas, ice conditions, and extended voyages. Their design emphasizes durability and safety for long-distance travel, making them ideal for those who wish to explore regions far from typical cruising grounds on a Spain luxury yacht charter.

Superyachts and mega yachts for charter

Superyachts and mega yachts are luxury vessels that exceed traditional yacht sizes, offering unparalleled comfort, amenities, and often extravagant features. They represent the pinnacle of luxury on the seas and are ideal for those who want to indulge in personalized service.

Multi-hull vessels for charter

The most common types of multi-hulls include catamarans and trimarans. Catamarans, in particular, are popular for chartering due to their stability, spaciousness, and comfort, making them an ideal choice for leisure cruising and vacations on the Spanish coast.

No matter what yacht type you seek, Moran Yacht & Ship experts can connect you with your ideal vessel. Contact our team or browse our selection of yachts for charter in Spain below and enjoy pure luxury in one of the world’s top charter destinations.

When is the best time to visit Spain on a yacht charter?

The best time to visit Spain on a yacht charter is during the summer months between June and August, although this can depend on your preferences and the specific regions you plan to explore along the Spanish coastline.

Spring (April to May)

This period offers pleasant weather with mild temperatures, making it ideal for exploring Spain’s southern and eastern coasts. Crowds are fewer compared to the summer months.

Summer (June to August)

Summer is the high season for tourism along the Spanish coast. The weather is warm and perfect for beach activities and cruising. The Balearic Islands, including Mallorca and Ibiza, are popular destinations during this time.

Fall/Autumn (September to October)

Like spring, autumn offers mild temperatures, fewer crowds, and a more relaxed atmosphere. It’s a great time to cruise along the Spanish coastlines and explore historical towns.

Winter (November to March)

While the weather can be cooler, especially in northern Spain, the southern coast tends to be milder. Winter can be a quieter time for yacht charters, but it’s suitable for exploring cities and cultural sites.

How much does it cost to rent a Spanish luxury yacht?

The price of a yacht rental in Spain depends on the yacht’s size, the planned route, and the duration of the charter. Anticipate a minimum cost of US$200,000 per week for a luxury boat rental in Spanish waters, while the most exceptional superyachts can exceed a million dollars per week. Moran Yacht & Ship specializes in crafting outstanding water experiences aboard some of the world’s most exceptional yachts. Our selection of charter yachts showcases vessels built by renowned shipbuilders such as Lürssen, Feadship, Amels, Nobiskrug, and Oceanco. Get in touch with our team today for more information.

What is the Advanced Provisioning Allowance, or APA?

The Advanced Provisioning Allowance, or APA, is designed to cover non-fixed costs, such as fuel, berthing costs, and food and drinks. Your luxury yacht broker will provide an estimated APA based on your needs. The APA is paid before the charter, and the captain will use the funds to cover your day-to-day costs. Any funds left at the end of the charter will be immediately refunded to you, along with a full breakdown of all expenses. During your yacht charter experience, you are free to ask the captain for details of the APA, including what has been used and what remains. The APA typically costs around 10% of the base charter rate.

What amenities can I expect on a luxury yacht?

The type of amenities you can expect on a luxury yacht will depend on the size of the vessel, with larger yachts able to accommodate a larger number of amenities. Moran Yacht & Ship has access to a superb selection of Spanish motor yachts for charter, including the world’s largest vessels. Charterers can expect luxurious cabins with ensuite bathrooms, plush bedding, and stylish interiors that rival high-end hotel suites. Many luxury yachts also have professional chefs on board who craft exquisite meals tailored to guests’ preferences and dining areas that include formal dining spaces and al fresco options. Expansive decks featuring lounging areas, sun pads, Jacuzzis, and outdoor dining setups allow guests to enjoy the sea breeze and stunning views. Some of the biggest vessels are equipped with various water toys for entertainment, such as jet skis, paddleboards, kayaks, wakeboards, snorkeling gear, and sometimes even a water slide.

How many guests can I take on my yacht charter?

Most yachts for charter can accommodate a maximum of 12 guests while cruising. However, some charter vessels can accommodate a larger number of guests. A luxury charter brokerage, like Moran Yacht & Ship, can secure a vessel based on your needs. Contact our team today.

What availability is there for yacht charters in Spain?

While there is a superb selection of luxury Spanish motor yachts for charter, the best vessels are in high demand. We suggest booking a yacht charter in Spain as far in advance as possible, especially during the summer when the area is in peak season. However, last-minute bookings are available. Contact our team if you want to reserve a luxury Spain yacht for charter.

Bullfighting and Flamenco Shows are part of the rich Spanish heritage that makes this country a bucket-list sailing destination. What currency should I take on my Spain motor yacht charter?

Euros are widely accepted in Spain for various transactions, including payments for marina fees, dining, shopping, and other services related to your yacht charter.

Marina Port Vell is a world-class marina for superyachts perfectly located in the heart of Barcelona. Originally built during the 1992 Olympic Games, it has now assumed a strategic role for the city and provides a major boost to the Catalan coast as one of the first marinas in Spain to specialize in the superyacht sector.

Marina Port Vell is the premium Superyacht facility offering over 150 berths and one of the world’s longest quays (440m), which makes it an ideal destination for the mooring of superyachts up to 190m.

Marina Port Vell and Barcelona’s popularity has enabled the showcasing of prolific worldwide industry events at the marina, including the MYBA Charter Show, The Superyacht Show from LYBRA and the Salón Náutico Internacional de Barcelona. It is also the venue of choice for many brands synonymous with quality and excellence such as Maserati, Lamborghini and Aston Martin as well as high-end retailers including Montblanc and Jo Malone.

Marina Port Vell continues to grow in popularity during the summer as the Mediterranean’s leading Superyacht Marina and is well established as a favourite winter home port destination. Run by a team of highly qualified professionals to provide the service levels required for effective running and management for these renowned 70m plus superyachts. In September 2021 a new €20 million investment plan was agreed upon, involving the remodelling of the marina to enhance its capacity and strengthen its specialised ad hoc services for 30m plus vessels, creating 23 new berths for vessels with a length of up to 70m.

Thanks to this new configuration, the marina will boast 55 berths for superyachts, a figure that will increase up to 65 in periods of high occupancy to accommodate the sought after winter berthing demands and the growing popularity of visiting superyachts in high season summer. The plan includes the remodelling of different spaces within the marina, such as; reconfiguring the marina basin, a landscaping project and installation of a new bunkering system. Additionally, a sustainability Master Plan has been introduced to ensure that the marina continues to be a sustainable, safe and innovative infrastructure providing quality services.

Barcelona has established itself as the most important city in the Western Mediterranean. An Iconic and vibrant cosmopolitan city, known for its year-round good weather, culture and gastronomy attracting talent, creativity, and innovation with an offering of an array of world leading activities and attractions within the city and on Marina Port Vells doorstep.

Renowned for its fantastic gastronomic options, Barcelona boasts 30 plus Michelin Star restaurants, and a luxurious first-rate shopping district housing iconic buildings such as  La Pedrera and Casa Batlló. Barcelona also has the unique advantage of being home to the only Superyacht Marina in the Mediterranean located within a city, only a 5-minute walk into the town centre and nearby beaches. Yacht Charter in Spain

Make My Day by Princess - Top rates for a Charter of a private Motor Yacht in Spain

Spain yacht charter

When it comes to spectacular art, architecture, fantastic cuisine, calm cruising grounds, sunny weather, and one of the world's best nightlife scenes, nothing beats a holiday in Spain. With the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Seas on its coastline, it is a yacht charter paradise. In the summer, from April to October, you will witness some of the world's best luxury yachts floating off the waters of Ibiza, Mallorca, Barcelona, and on the sailing haven of the Canary Islands.

How much to charter a yacht in Spain?

With thousands of coastlines and more than 300 sunny days every year, a yacht charter is the ideal way to truly capture Spain's gist and beauty. You can choose from many different types of sizes of boats, from speedboats to catamarans with two cabins, to superyachts with complete luxury amenities. A 156-foot sailboat in Spain can cost around $6,700 for a week's rent, while a 42-foot catamaran with six cabins can cost about $8,500. For a 134-foot luxury yacht, with five cabins, and complete water sports equipment, it can cost around $100,000 for 7 days.

What are the most popular yacht holidays in Spain?

The coastal cities and islands on the Mediterranean side of Spain offer the most popular yacht charter holidays. With turquoise waters, peaceful cruising grounds, sheltered bays, and plenty of charming and exciting islands to explore, Spain is a luxury yacht charter paradise. The Balearic Islands make up Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, and Formentera. Mallorca is famous for its vibrant nightlife, stunning historical architecture, and secluded coves. The island also features quaint fishing villages and charming stone-built villages such as the popular Pollenca.

Ibiza, famous for being a party island destination, is known worldwide for its legendary nightlife. It is home to the world's largest nightclub, the Privilege Ibiza. But aside from its image as Spain's party capital, the island also boasts deserted beaches, calm anchorages, and crystal blue waters perfect for water sports activities. Formentera and Menorca's islands offer a more peaceful atmosphere, fantastic beach clubs, excellent restaurants, and gorgeous sandy beaches. If you want to step away from the buzzing nightlife and crowds of Ibiza, you can take your boat to these islands for some laid back vibe.

The Mediterranean coastal cities of Spain are perfect destinations for cosmopolitan life. You will discover spectacular architecture in Barcelona, particularly of Gaudi's works, who designed the famous Sagrada Familia Catholic Church. The city is the top spot for trendy shops, gourmet restaurants, and art museums. The city of Valencia, also on the coast, is renowned for its famous sailing grounds. Considered to have one of the best waters for yachts in the whole of Europe, it is host to the America's Cup, the world's most important sailing race.

In Costa Del Sol, you will find Sotogrande, also offering excellent sailing conditions, designer shops, and of course, an epic nightlife. And if you want a more rugged and raw natural beauty for a yacht holiday destination, the Canary Islands on the Atlantic Ocean is a hidden gem. It is located approximately 70 miles off the coast of Morocco and features seven main islands, all within a day's cruise. The island group is Spanish territory, and there are excellent marinas, thousands of beaches, and incredible natural scenery.

Where to go on a luxury yacht charter in Spain?

Spain is a luxury yacht charter destination, and you can find plenty of luxury tours on the Mediterranean coast. You can find Port Vell in Barcelona, one of Europe's most famous luxury marinas. You can find the Port Vell Wellness within the marina, which features a spa, a gym with personal trainers, and a Pilates studio. After seven days cruising the Mediterranean, get to drop anchor in this marina and pamper yourself with the 5-star spa only a few steps away from your boat. And with the city only a stroll away, get to explore the Gothic quarter nearby, and indulge yourself in world-class cuisine from any of the ten Michelin-starred restaurants located all over Barcelona.

The backdrop of the Sierra Blanca Mountains provides stunning views from the 27 km of beautiful sandy beaches and from on board a luxury yacht.

Heesen Foredeck, Mediterranean - Jeff-Brown

What was once a small fishing village, Marbella is now a top tourist beach resort on the Costa del Sol in Spain. During your anchorage here see the Old Town in Orange Square. Take a walk through the Golden Mile, a four mile stretch between Marbella and Puerto Banús. You’ll find some of the most luxurious residences in Marbella like the Palace of King Fahd as well as many landmark hotels such as Melia don Pepe, the Puente Hotel and the Hotel Marbella Club.

Glitzy and glamorous Marbella is famous for its summer parties, champagne and exciting lifestyle. It’s also home to 137 different nationalities and the second greenest city in all of Europe. Check out the 2000-year-old first villa to be built in Marbella. It’s called Roman Villa and can be found in Rio Verde, just over the bridge from Puerto Banús. If you’re interested in history, put this villa with amazing marble mosaics on your itinerary of must-visits.

Marbella's Golden Mile

Impressive marinas like the legendary Puerto Banús line the coast to the east and the west of the resort. You won’t fail to notice the many catamarans, power boats and sailing yachts bobbing in their harbours everywhere you go. There are many yachts belonging to celebrities, business tycoons and royalty here, especially during the summer months. Puerto Banús, just over nine miles from Marbella is a byword for luxury. It’s a marina and shopping complex all in one so if you want some retail therapy, include this popular marina in your superyacht vacation itinerary.

This is the Dynasty, the first megayacht to overwinter at Malaga's marina for luxury craft

The vessel is valued at an eye-watering 200 million dollars and it will be docked in the city until spring 2024, while it undergoes maintenance.

It's name is I Dynasty and it is a 101-metre superyacht that has just anchored at the Port of Malaga and will remain there for the whole winter.

It's the first luxury vessel scheduled to spend the cooler months in the Marqués de Guadiaro basin, the reformed area in the city port for luxury craft and megayachts. The marina was designed and built several years ago to receive large vessels and provide them with the necessary services during the low season, such as high-power electrical connections.

The I Dynasty, with a crew of 30, is scheduled to remain in Malaga throughout the autumn and winter, until the spring of 2024, according to port sources.

Business opportunities

The megayacht will undergo maintenance throughout the winter, for which the concessionaire of the marina, IGY Málaga Marina, is looking for various suppliers in the province which specialise in various technical tasks.

Maintenance required may include sanding, hull painting, welding, electrical, mechanics, carpentry and plumbing. IGY Málaga Marina is creating a database of interested companies, for which they ask anyone interested to contact them directly.

The I Dynasty is a modern megayacht built in 2015 on behalf of Alijan Ibragimov, a billionaire from Kazakhstan. He is the co-founder of the multinational Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC) and is involved in diversified natural resources such as mining, processing, energy and logistics. Its owner died in February 2021, reportedly due to Covid-19.

The vessel was built at the Kusch Yachts shipyard in Germany, with interior design by Massari Design. It can accommodate 22 guests in 11 luxury cabins; and 30 crew in another 15 cabins. Among its features, it has a 30-square-metre indoor swimming pool, which also serves as a dock for dinghies and pleasure boats.

The ship is powered by a Rolls-Royce diesel-electric propulsion system, with a top speed of 17 knots, and a cruising speed of 14 knots. It has a range of 6,500 nautical miles (about 12,000 kilometres), making it particularly suitable for journeys between the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. It is valued at around 200 million dollars, with maintenance costs estimated at 15 to 20 million dollars a year.

Join some of the world’s best superyachts in Barcelona this winter

With summer now in full swing and superyachts enjoying a busy season, figuring out where to berth this winter is next on the agenda. For those owners and captains whose yachts are not heading to the Caribbean or in need of a berth after the summer season, Barcelona’s Marina Port Vell can provide the perfect winter port.

Reaching this cosmopolitan city is easy by plane, and even easier by superyacht, as Marina Port Vell lies in the heart of Barcelona. Built during the 1992 Olympic Games, Marina Port Vell is one of Barcelona’s main attractions, as it is the only superyacht marina in the Mediterranean located within a city and is often populated by some of the world’s most famous superyachts.

These yachts and more have experienced how Marina Port Vell has established itself as one of the best and most popular superyacht destinations. And this winter, the marina will continue to offer a first-class service to all berthed yachts, their guests and crews, in the following ways:

Plenty of space

In September 2021, Marina Port Vell presented a €20 million investment plan to remodel the marina to increase capacity for superyachts and strengthen its services. The results will see an additional 23 berths for vessels up to 70 metres. For superyachts measuring up to 190 metres, the total berths available in winter will be 65.

The plan also focuses on sustainability and will grant the marina extra green spaces and a new bunkering system accessible at each berth to reduce pollution. Marina Port Vell’s green goals include the ESG strategy that ensures it is an environmentally-responsible company.

The company has been around for 163 years, building ships including the Titanic , the Olympic , and other notable ocean liners. But as the world has changed, Harland & Wolff has struggled to keep up, with The New York Times citing a failure to adapt to new technologies as one of the reasons for the company’s troubles. Back in 2019, it went into administration for the first time, but new owners saved it from an unsavory fate back then.

Now, Downs thinks that Harland & Wolff will be sold again and become a private company. (The company stopped trading on the London Stock Exchange in July, after it didn’t publicly share audited accounts on time. Executives will meet with shareholders later this week.) Those seeking to potentially buy some or all of the company include Navantia, a state-owned shipbuilder in Spain, and British defense company Babcock International.
