Frequently Asked Questions
If a deposit is made via bank deposit, we require you to send as an email to confirm when this is done.
The full payment due on the day of hire. If you book 48 hours or less before the booking date then you will need to pay in full when booking.
No booking is regarded as confirmed until a 50% deposit is received. You can pay this deposit via bank transfer or via card over the phone. We do not accept Amex.
The outstanding balance is due on the day of hire. If you book 48 hours or less before the booking date then you will need to pay in full when booking.
Once you have parked (pay & display) please come to the office where you will be greeted. You will be asked to fill in a booking form and pay the balance on your booking. Then you will provided with buoyancy aids or lifejackets (depending on which boat you had hired) which you are required to wear for the duration of your hire. You will be given a map and a full area briefing before heading to your boat where you will be given a boat brief.
Launch/Pilot: During your boat brief a member of staff will take you out to explain in more detail about the stopping distance of the vessel.
Yacht charter:
Elektra is on a mooring buoy, you will be taken out to the boat for your briefing
Merlin will be on a beath in the marina, you will be taken to the boat for your briefing.

Please note the toilet fertilities are a short walk from the office. They are located by the café just after the red telephone box. You may wish to arrive in time to use them before your booking.

Your booking is based on your start time, if you are late for your booking, you will lose time on the water. You will still be required to have your boat back on time, for example, if your booking is 9am to 12.30pm then the boat will need to back at 12.30. For fees for late returns please see T&C
The booking time incudes a safety briefing and filling in booking form.

We welcome pets on board our boats but there are some limits so please read the boat information on your fleet page. The boat capacity is based on people, please consider the size of your pet when booking

We run half day (3 hours) and full day (7 hours) this includes signing in and briefing time.
In case we get some ‘Cornish liquid sunshine’ we always suggest you come prepared with a coat.
If the forecast is looking wet for the day you have booked then you can always contact us. If we are able to move your booking to another day we are happy to do this for a small re-booking fee, however this is not always possible due to date availability. If you wish to cancel, remember we are unable to refund your deposit if cancel you booking with less than 48 hours’ notice. Please take a look at our T&Cs for full cancellation policy details.
All parking is run by the marina and is pay and display. We are in the first car park as you come down the hill on the left. There is also more parking by the marina office and up the valley.
Please give yourself enough time before the start of your hire to park.
There are plenty of places to stop where you can use the toilet but there are none onboard the Cornish Shrimpers or picarooners. The yacht charter boats have heads.
Our motor boats can explore the far reaches of the river fal (tide dependent) to St Anthonys Lighthouse, whereas our Cornish Shrimpers and Jeanneau Sun 2500 can go a little further into Falmouth Bay and the Helford River. All ages are allowed as long as someone over 18 is in charge of the boat. Please make staff aware when booking of anyone under the age of 8.
As our picaroooners are licensed for non-experienced people they are not speed boats. Though, you can explore the whole of the River Fal in a day, from our pontoon it will take approx.:
Falmouth – 40 mins
St Mawes – 50 mins
Trellissick House – 40 mins
The Pandora Inn – 20 mins
If you cancel your booking with less than 48 Hours’ notice will not be entitled to a refund. If you cancel with more than 48 Hours’ notice but less than one week before your booking then you will receive a voucher. This voucher will be for the value of the deposit paid and must be redeemed with in 1 year. To receive a full refund of your booking deposit you will need to give over one weeks’ notice.
We do not do a per person price, the price is for the boat.
Our boats can be taken away, as long as you have a suitable mooring and the owners permission, and that you are competent with tying it on safely.
Are there many places to moor overnight with the Cornish Shrimpers or Jeanneau Sun 2500?

If you wish to stay on our pontoon overnight on a Cornish Shrimpers this will need to be arranged in advance.
Yes, our boats are moored on our pontoon, which can be accessed via the slipway with no steps involved.
Please let us know your requirements when booking.
Call up and ask us for the tidal information for that day but the Pandora’s pontoon will generally only accessible 2 hours either side of high tide.
There are many pontoons to stop off at including the Pandora Inn and St Mawes (both tide dependent), Falmouth, the heron Inn (Malpas) and Trellissick House, or drop the anchor in a peaceful spot to enjoy a picnic.
You will be given an area briefing on arrival, if you wish to go somewhere in particular please let us know at the time of booking so a member of staff times for you, some places are tide dependent.

Yes, we always encourage booking in advance to avoid disappointment. It is best to book as soon as you have a date in mind.
Yes, they are included in your booking, buoyancy aids a provided for the Motor Picarooners bookings and manual lifejackets for the Cornish Shrimpers and yacht bookings.
Yes. All of the boats have a legal maximum capacity (people). It is not based on age. Please see T&C for boat capacity.
The boat must be tidy and clean on its return. Please take everything home at the end of your boat trip. Do not do any fish prep in the boat or our pontoon . Read T&C regarding clearing charges
We do not mind you bringing your own food and drink. You must the boat tidy and take everything home at the end of your boat trip. Read T&C regarding clearing charges
We do not provide a kit list. Everything we provide is listed and we feel that what you wish to bring with you is a personal choice. We do however suggest you consider tides, weather and duration of your hire when deciding what to bring with you.
We only provide the following items for multi day hire :
- Fuel for stove (Origo single hob meths stove)
- Small kettle
- Small washing bowl
- 5L water for boiling
- Ecover washing up liquid
- Berth mattress (if you are staying overnight onboard)

We do not provide any cookware, crockery and cutlery but please feel free to bring your own along.
It works like this:
For every consecutive full day you book you get the evening and overnight in-between included in the price. If you wish to come back to our pontoon, a return time will need to be agreed. For details on where you can stay overnight please take a look at ‘ Can we take a boat away overnight? ‘
or if you wish to pick up the evening before a full day hire this will cost £80. The collection time will need to be arranged at the time of booking.

From our beautiful hope marina of Mylor Yacht Harbour we are perfectly positioned to explore the stunning sailing grounds Falmouth has to offer, or stretch your legs and aim for the Scillies. Heading east you’ll find the lovely harbour town of Fowey a short hop away, or venture further along coast for a night in the Yealm or on to Dartmouth. Cornwall and Devon boast some lovely harbours and anchorages so you wont be short of places to explore.

Fancy just coming aboard for a day or an afternoon with one of our skippers to take care of the sailing and a crew to organise lunch. Well our sailing trips are what you’ve been looking for. You’ll still be able to take a turn at the wheel and help hoist sails but safe in the knowledge that our team are there to make sure you have a great day out. A well mannered user friendly 37ft boat. this is a great stepping stone from smaller keel boats to larger yachts. she is able to carry 10 people. sun odysseys are well known for being very straight forward and rewarding to sail, they combine logical deck layouts, well proportioned hulls and rigs with comfortable and well appointed interiors. merlin is no exception, the cockpit is a good size for up to 8 people, but as everything is led to the coach roof it is easy to sail merlin with just 2 people., "zara" jeanneau sun odyssey 37, the latest addition to our fleet, our second jeanneau sun odyssey 37. these boats sail beautifully and are very comfortable below. the perfect vessel to complete an rya course on or to charter and explore cornwall. more pictures and information coming soon..

On board you will find all required safety kit, navigation equipment including charts for the Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. Along with well equipped galleys, with plenty of cookware, cutlery and crockery.
All berths have mattresses but please bring your own bedding and towels.

, on the western bank of the River opposite Plymouth, Saltash Boat & Mooring Service has moorings is also on the west bank of the River and you will find moorings at Southdown Marina Boat Storage lies on the Coast further to the west and Millpool Boat Yard offers moorings. is one of the major sailing centres in Cornwall. It is situated on the south coast of Cornwall between Plymouth and Falmouth and is about 20 miles from each when sailing. The town Fowey stretches for about a mile along the west bank of the River Fowey to the mouth of the river. A passenger ferry runs across the river to the village of Polruan on the opposite bank. The busy harbour has a mix of commercial shipping involved in the export of the locally quarried china clay, many yachts and occasionally a large cruise liner. Fowey has an interesting history and much can be learnt about the town by visiting the Museum. Or, during the summer season, take a guided walk on a Tuesday morning. Other places of interest in and around Fowey include; the two block houses on either side of the harbour entrance, built around 1380, between which a chain was hung to prevent the entry of unfriendly ships into the harbour. Polruan blockhouse may be visited on foot. The harbour contains both swing moorings and floating pontoons. Contact Fowey Harbour Patrol on VHF Channel 12 when entering the port. A water taxi serves the harbour moorings, between Easter and November, and can be contacted on VHF Channel 6 or telephone +44(0) 7774 906703. Visiting yacht crews are welcome to use the facilities of the Fowey Gallants Sailing Club and the Royal Fowey Yacht Club. Harbour is a 200 year old Georgian china clay port and home to Square Sail's 3 Square Riggers. The harbour has lock gates open 1 hour before HW. SE & S winds cause heavy swells that can affect operation of lock. Harbour is primarily a fishing Harbour. The village dates from the 15th century. If approaching from south a wide berth of Citadel Point is recommended. Approach to harbour is straightforward, but a sharp lookout should be maintained for static fishing gear in bay. The harbour entrance should be approached at low speed, no more than 3 knots. If the wind is from the East and exceeds force 3 it is strongly recommended to use Fowey as an alternative. is situated on the River Truro at the head of the tidal estuary of the Fal. The spire-topped towers of Truro Cathedral, the central tower is 76 metres high, built between 1880 and 1910, dominate the town. Many Georgian buildings survive from Truro's prosperous tin and copper mining days. The Royal Cornwall Museum has a good collection of paintings by local artists. For Truro follow navigation buoys marking the deep water channel up the Fal Estuary from the entrance. Carrick Maritime Section runs the visitors quays in Truro, including Town Quay, Worths Quay and Garras Wharf. The Upper Quays of Truro are tidal and access is restricted to vessels with a draft of not more than approximately 2m. Malpas Marine has berths. , follow channel marks and buoys up Penryn River to Exchequer Quay where visiting yachts may berth. Access is tidal. Moorings are available at Penryn Bridge Boatyard Challenger Marine has berths is a major yachting location in Cornwall and sits on the shoreline of the third largest natural harbour in the world. The Cornwall Maritime Museum tells the storey of Falmouth's nautical history. Many gardens are worth viewing and the subtropical climate supports the growth of many varieties of plants. The following are well worth a visit; Fox Rosehill, Queen Mary, Kimberley Park and Gyllyngdune are in Falmouth and those of Trelissick, Glendurgan and Trebah are all reached with ease. Pendennis Castle stands on the nearby headland of Pendennis Point, built by King Henry VIII between 1539-64 as a defence against the French. Today, the Castle, with its fine views across to the headlands of St Mawes and the Lizard Peninsula, stages battle re-enactments, jousting tournaments and concerts. There are several marinas offering berths. Trevissome House Marine has moorings. In the harbour are 18 visitors moorings marked with green buoys. A harbour launch will direct you to a suitable mooring. Do not berth at the Custom House Quay or Prince of Wales Pier steps as commercial vessels use these. If anchoring keep the fairways and channels clear. Do not anchor in vicinity of the docks or small craft mooring areas. on the river Helford. is the largest town in west Cornwall and the most westerly town in England and overlooks Mount's Bay. In the bay is St Michael's Mount, a small circular granite island that can be reached by a causeway at low tide. The island rises to about 100 metres and an ancient castle and monastery sit on top. Penzance has many old buildings dating from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The National Lighthouse Museum follows the history of local lighthouses that have directed ships away from the rocky, dangerous coastline for centuries. The Penzance Maritime Museum has an interesting collection of nautical memorabilia. The area around Penzance is a mix of high granite cliffs and white sandy beaches; many subtropical plants thrive due to the mild climate. A large number of prehistoric burial mounds and stones can be seen in the area, as can the extensive remains of Bronze Age villages. Penzance Harbour has 50 berths for visiting yachts. Access is tidal and lock gates are manned on every tide, 7 days a week, from 2 hours before high water until on hour after high water. is home to the largest fleet of fishing boats in the South of England. The Pilchard Museum shows how this little fish, which was once a major part of the local economy, was processed and packed for shipment to destinations worldwide. Penlee House has a collection of paintings from the Newlyn School. The school flourished during the late 19th century, inspiring artists such as Stanhope Forbes to capture the local area on canvas. If approaching Newlyn harbour from the E stay well to the S of Gear rock. From the W an E cardinal buoy marks Low Lea shoal. 3 cables to the NW a second shoal, Carn Base, is unmarked. Approach between 240ºT and 335ºT. Once inside Newlyn harbour head for the SW side of the central pier where you will be asked to tie up alongside the pier or a fishing boat. lie about 25 miles off the southwest coast of Cornwall. There are 140 small islands and rocks of which only five are inhabited: St Mary's, Tresco, St Martin's, St Agnes and Bryher. The capital is Hugh Town, situated on a narrow sandbar on the south western side of the island of St Mary's. Yachts can moor or anchor St Mary's harbour. There is an anchorage at Old Grimsby on the eastern side of Tresco. There are moorings and an anchorage in Great Bay on the northern side of St Martin's. The cove on the western side of St Agnes is an almost landlocked bay and makes for a good anchorage. . All this said, the prudent skipper, prior to embarking on the charter, will make sure the yacht is furnished with the appropriate, up to date, charts and pilotage notes for the area they are intending to sail in. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
