Diamond Head Classic Yawl

Relive the golden era of yachting history.

The early 20th century saw the creation of a special kind of distinguished beauty among yachts in the yachting community.  It was a time when many of the top one percent of the wealthy class owned and raced yachts.  They lived for devoting leisure time to these yachts, enjoying the classic cuts and elegant lines gracing the most beautiful vessels that have ever sailed the oceans.   DIAMOND HEAD  ( formerly L'APACHE ) is exactly this caliber yacht with a rich history as stiff competitor in such prestigious races as the Transpacific Race from California to Hawaii, the Swiftsure Race, known as one of the most difficult races created, and many others.

DIAMOND HEAD has a history of influential owners from the upper echelon of West Coast society.   Today she remains a yacht that inspires awe, as few people can behold her classic beauty without being drawn to her with questions and a desire to learn more and be a part of her ongoing history.  She has maintained this powerful magnetism since her inception and has been a newsworthy boat throughout her life, her doings and her owners' accomplishments repeatedly  landing in the news from coast to coast.

It is a rare opportunity indeed to own or sail such a distinguished yacht as the DIAMOND HEAD.  The majority of passers by pause in awed admiration of her exquisite lines, taking their photos and moving on while only a handful of those will take the courageous step to become a part of her ongoing story.  She is being offered for sale to those few individuals who may find deep within them the desire to become custodian of a cherished piece of yachting lore.

DIAMOND HEAD is available for sale and for hire in the enchanting Caribbean Islands.

DIAMOND HEAD's Seductive Presence

Only those with a feel for true beauty, nostalgia, and an appreciation for glories of the past will be enamored enough to personally act in DIAMOND HEADS's future.  It takes a special kind of person to be sufficiently fascinated to participate in the ongoing development of the story of a historical work of art like a classic yacht.  DIAMOND HEAD's grace and gravitas have repeatedly attracted top-notch photographers, Hollywood producers, yachtsmen, and other influential individuals, some of whom have been fortunate enough to become her passionate owners.  She inspires a love and bond that transcends the usual connection between owner and yacht.

They have this operation dialed in. It is short but very sweet. The open bar and fun, yet competent, staff makes for good times on the water. The views are great, they have good music going, and it is fun meeting other folks on board. Definitely check it out!

What a wonderful experience! The crew was friendly and fun. The drinks were tasty and plentiful. The sunset was gorgeous and the moonrise was a terrific bonus. I highly recommend!

This was a great experience. This sail is very calm and relaxing and a completely different experience from the trade wind sails, where you expect to get tossed around and get wet. The crew was very friendly and attentive. The sunset was gorgeous, even though it was overcast all day. My wife and I now prefer this sail over the trade winds sails we have done in the past. Great sail!

My friend was visiting me on the island and we both loved this experience! The crew is so refreshing and fun! It was a mix of young and old! It was a great time! Would definitely recommend!

This is the best deal in Waikiki. Was there for a week and went on this cruise three times. ~$30 for one hour sail with open bar. So, you can sit in a hotel bar and nurse one drink or be on the ocean enjoying amazing views, listen to lively music and chug down multiple drinks. No brainer. Shout out to Dustin for the amazing sailing experience.

This was a total blast! The guys running the boat were friendly and entertaining. The sites were phenomenal. The sea life is gorgeous. And the drinks were very good. I booked a second trip, can’t wait to sale again!

DIAMOND HEAD: Maori 64

The maori 64 mixes avant-garde styling with rock star attitude to create one of the most distinctive craft on the water. yachts takes a deeper look at the marco ciampa designed yacht..

diamond head yacht

The Olbia studio of Marco Ciampa is only a short cruise away from the Sardinian yachting hotspots of Porto Rotondo, Capriccioli bay and Porto Cervo. Working on the Costa Smeralda is about as inspiring as it can get for a designer, as many of the world’s most well known yachts anchor there for the summer season. Being surrounded by iconic hulls, Ciampa’s inspiration is evident and with the forward thinking of the Maori Yachts vision, his adventurous concepts for the shipyard make it through to the build stage without question.

AVANT GARDE

For the latest Maori Yacht, the awe inspiring 64, the Italian designer starts the silhouette off with his iconic ‘diamond head’. This distinctive bow treatment sets the avant-garde tone for the rest of the yacht and is a bold design statement. But, that is just the beginning. A pair of red-trimmed sofas make up the foredeck lounge on this 18-metre, with, incredibly, the lines of the hardtop starting from the armrests. Here, the golden lines swoop up towards the windscreen, flanking a huge, red sunpad before coming to an end alongside the hardtop.

The hull lines are equally as intriguing, arcing aft from the diamond head bow to the swim platform, creating a feeling of movement. However, during navigation, the bottom of the large hull windows remain parallel with the ocean, exaggerating the already sporty silhouette. Ciampa really has put considerable effort in matching the 64’s looks to her performance.

This distinctive bow treatment sets the avant-garde tone for the rest of the yacht and is a bold design statement.

diamond head yacht

As the Maori is 18-metres of aggressive sportster, it was never going to be propelled by a couple of inboard V6s. To match the looks, Maori has two engine options: 2x FPT turbo diesels rated at 825hp each, and 2x MAN turbo diesels rated at 1200hp each. That’s enough raw power to propel the Maori up to 46-knots (with the MANs), while also allowing it to cruise at 38-knots. To top the performance off, the 64 is propelled by JollyDrive surface drives. Not only are they more efficient as there’s less drag, but the result of running propellers that operate half in and half of the water is a huge, guest-pleasing rooster tail at full throttle.

diamond head yacht

GUEST COMFORT

Thanks to its walk around design, the 64’s layout is geared for guest sharing, with the main deck featuring a large sun-pad aft. Here, the headrests also act as the back rests for the aft sofa. Forward is the lounge, featuring two L-shaped sofas with corresponding tables, where underway, we’d recommend sitting, as at full throttle the mix of horsepower and surface drives mean the ride can be exhilarating. Put it this way, you’ll need to be firmly wedged in with something to hold onto when the skipper’s having fun.

Opposite the helm is lounger, with the sliding door that leads down to the cabin in between. At the bottom of the steps is the master cabin, which is bright and airy, thanks to the aforementioned windows. These are huge for an 18-metre yacht, and thanks to a cream and chocolate colour way, the sun’s rays create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Maori 64 is basically a concept that the shipyard actually went and built. Marco Ciampa’s design is an adventurous one, with the unique execution of the bow, sun-pad, windscreen and canopy making the big walk around instantly recognisable. Add the full throttle rooster tail from the surface drives and you have a superstar performer on every level.

At the center of the C lies an atrium with floating stars and a lift without walls that allows seafarers to navigate decks in a novel fashion. Highlights of the living quarters include a duplex owner’s suite, a partially enclosed sea lounge that can be used at anchor or on the waves, a beach club with a sea-level dining area, and a private observation deck with an articulating crow’s nest. To top it off, C is outfitted with two infinity pools that match the hexagonal shape of the atrium and other seating areas.

Feadship Project 821

C also shines on the technology front. She features a sleek hull and a fully electric propulsion system similar to sisterships Breathe and Savannah that renders her 30 percent more efficient than a typical 246-footer with dual shafts, propellers, and rudders, according to Feadship. Her streamlined underwater profile means less wake, too.

C will also be equipped with fuel cells and lithium-metal batteries that will together cover all power needs. (Feadship has also incorporated fuel cells on Project 821 .) Green methanol will be the fuel of choice due to its relatively high density and ease of use. Normal cruising speed on the fuel cells is 14 knots, while a top speed of 17 knots can be achieved by adding the battery power. In addition, two wave-actuated fins can generate enough grunt to cover one-third of the hotel load.

C will be fully unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show next week. The yacht is just a concept at this stage, but Feadship says she is completely buildable. Perhaps the yard will land a buyer at the show.
